What is ITIL?
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a highly consistent and comprehensive documentation of best practices for IT Service Management. Used by many hundreds of organizations around the world, a whole ITIL philosophy has grown up around the guidance contained within the ITIL books and the supporting professional qualification scheme.
ITIL is a developing standard that began in the late 1980s for IT processes. Becoming widely adopted in North America, it is already well known throughout the rest of the world, especially in Europe. Leading industry experts, consultants, and practitioners have been involved in the development of ITIL standards, and as a result, ITIL is quickly becoming the global benchmark by which organizations measure the quality of IT service management.
The driving force behind the development of ITIL is the recognition that organizations are becoming increasingly dependent on IT in order to satisfy their corporate aims and meet their business needs. This leads to an increased requirement for high quality IT services.
What does ITIL include?
ITIL is comprised of 24 interrelated modules that provide guidance on how to optimize technology services. These modules provide strategic, tactical and operational methodologies. The Service Management section of ITIL comprises 10 of
